Today, my Great Uncle Bill past away. Although we didn’t spend great amounts of time together, I remember him fondly. I remember the endless cigars he smoked and the colorful stories he told. I still picture him holding court with the rest of the family, drinking coffee around the well-worn dining room table at my grandparents’ cozy, two-family house in Kearny or “Down Neck” (as we Jerseyians call it).
His passing is very sad. However, I have no doubt my grandparents and great aunt are giving him the grand tour of Heaven – starting with the racetrack. (He and grandma always loved to bet a buck or two on the ponies.)
"Rest in Peace" seems too subdued, so instead I'll say...
"May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand."
- Romans 15:13
